Appleton Aston

This is a  narrative scene setting  background introduction to a series of anthologies :

Somewhere in the interstellar medium between the milky way and the Canis Major Galaxies lies  Aqua Spirituum. This Martian owned colony consists of a ethanol (alcohol)  giant, five times the  diameter of Earth and numerous moons, orbital facilities, stations and trailers.  

The planet, moons and even the star had been moved there fifty years before.  The star from Canis Major, the planet being a former rogue (a planet which drifts around space without orbiting a star) and the moons from all over the place. The other stuff had been built from these resources.

The economy of these settlements was diverse, but the chemical industry played a crucial  part . The ethanol giant was mined and then refined for various uses: fuels, disinfectant, antiseptic, fertilisers, industrial chemical solvents, antifreeze ,plastics  , healthcare products and of course alcoholic beverages.

The rolling hills, valleys  and land of one such moon, Appleton Aston,  are superficially similar to Britain, except there were long cold winters and very hot short summers, followed by an equally short rainy season. Appleton is used  by British government  dimension 8732, primary as a dumping ground for single mothers,  those on welfare benefits, "low risk" prisoners, the physically ill, the  mentally ill , homeless , bankrupts , the destitute and starving,  refugees and illegal immigrants .
