The remoaner/earth union anthem

Hi All,

The National Anthem of the Earth Union of Sovereign Star Republics

United forever in friendship and labour,
Our mighty republics will ever endure.
The Great Earth Union will live through the ages.
The dream of the humanity , their fortress secure!

Long live our human motherland,
Built by the people's vote mighty hand.
Long live our people, united and free.
Strong in our friendship tried by fire.
Long may our blue starred flag inspire,
Shining in glory for all men to see.

Through days dark and stormy where Great Junckner lead us
Our eyes saw the bright sun of freedom above
And Tusk our leader with faith in the people,
Inspired us to build up the land that we love

Long live our human motherland,
Built by the people's vote mighty hand.
Long live our people, united and free.
Strong in our friendship tried by fire.
Long may our blue starred flag inspire,
Shining in glory for all men to see.

We fought for the future, destroyed the Brexiters,
And brought to our homeland the laurels of fame.
Our glory will live in the memory of nations
And all generations will honour her name.

Long live our human motherland,
Built by the people's vote mighty hand.
Long live our people, united and free.
Strong in our friendship tried by fire.
Long may our blue starred flag inspire,

Shining in glory for all  to see.

Unbreakable Union of freeborn Republics,
Great Gaia has welded forever to stand.
Created in struggle by will of the people,
United and mighty, our human land!

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Corbyn, the strength of the people,
To humanity's triumph lead us on!

Through tempests the sunrays of freedom have cheered us,
Along the new path where great Junckner did lead.
To a righteous cause he raised up the peoples,
Inspired them to labour and valourous deed.

In the victory of Remainer's immortal ideal,
We see the future of our dear land.
And to her fluttering banner,
Selflessly true we always shall stand!

Hi All,

Another despicable attack on Jews in America.

Magnified and sanctified be Your name, O God, throughout the world, which You have created according to Your will. May Your sovereignty be accepted in our own days, in our lives, and in the life of all the House of Israel, speedily and soon, and let us say, Amen.

May Your great name be blessed for ever and ever.
Exalted and honoured, adored and acclaimed be Your name, O Holy One, blessed are You, whose glory transcends all praises, songs, and blessings voiced in the world, and let us say, Amen.

Grant abundant peace and life to us and to all Israel, and let us say, Amen.

May You who establish peace in the heavens, grant peace to us, to Israel, and to all the earth, and let us say, Amen.

God bless th UK

Hi All,

A belated st George's day song [via my American friends]:

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my family and my life
I thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
'Cause th Union Jack still stands for freedom
And Corbyn & the EU can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an Briton
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't FORGET my grandparents &
the people who died fighting antisemitism
Who gave that right to me

And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless our Queen & the UK

From the Lochs of Ireland
To the hills of Yorkshire
Across the plains of Lincolnshire
From Irish sea to north sea
From Edinburgh, Newcastle
 Leeds, Manchester ,down to Cambridge
Cardiff to Norwich
And Birmingham to London
Where's pride in every British heart

And it's time we stand and say
That I'm proud to be an Briton
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget my grandparents
& the people who died for me
Who gave that right to me

And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless our Queen and the UK

And I'm proud to be an Briton
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget my grandparents
& the people who died for me
Who gave that right to me

And I'd gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless Queen and the UK!

In the year 2525

Hi All,

In the year 2525, if man is still alive If woman can survive, they may find

In the year 3535 Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lie Everything you think, do and say Is in the pill you took today .

In the year 4545 You ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes You won't find a thing to chew Nobody's gonna look at you .

In the year 5555 Your arms hangin' limp at your sides Your legs got nothin' to do Some machine's doin' that for you.

In the year 6565 Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too From the bottom of a long glass tube .

In the year 7510 If God's a-coming, He oughta make it by then Maybe He'll look around Himself and say "Guess it's time for the Judgement Day"

In the year 8510 God is gonna shake His mighty head He'll either say, "I'm pleased where man has been" Or tear it down, and start again

In the year 9595 I'm kinda wonderin' if man is gonna be alive. He's taken everything this old earth can give And he ain't put back nothing Now it's been ten thousand years, man has cried a billion tears For what, he never knew, now man's reign is through But through eternal night, the twinkling of starlight So very far away, maybe it's only yesterday.

The managerial politician can't be put together again

Hi All,

In my previous post I wrote about the idea of party before country or country before party and how such a statement is objectively meaningless (with a caveat).

Of course in today's political world, political parties are shells of the mass movement of yesteryear , whether on the left or right (in Britain at least).  This means that party members can hold - I loath to write this- more extreme views than either their voters or the public at large.  At the same time membership has atrophied (conservative)  or being taken over (momentum in labour) , at the same time people within parties hold more ideology than the public, we have seen the rise of the management politician. Or at least at first glance.

This particular politician at first glance is best personified by the Blair and Clinton years of the 1990s. After the Reagan and Thatcher revolutions of the 80s ,  in the USA and UK the left foundered. The answer was Blair/ Clinton .  At their peak these two were articulate, excellent speech makers who promised to keep the economic policies of the right , whilst promising "social justice/equality"  in terms of social issues. In Blair's case he extended this to his foreign and defence  policy (a story for another time).

In effect it was as Clinton perceived "the economy stupid".  Provided that the left could be seen to managing the economy in a right wing way then they would win. The right would flounder , because, stripped of the economic aspect, all they'd have is to attack the equality and social aspects of the left  (ie social conservatism vs social liberalism) and be called bigots and racists / xenophobic in places where increased immigration and (thanks to the free market ideas)  social liberalism became more acceptable to the public.

This strategy worked for a while.  In fact it resulted in David Cameron being elected in the UK , as conservative leader, he would articulate both the managerial right wing economics and the social liberalism of the left. He did of course aim to be Blair's heir: another young fortyish politician who's non threatening , hugs huskies and will competently manage the economy.

The trouble was it was an utter charade. There was an ideology in economic policy even then.  Labour borrowed billions to pay for their pet projects , often off books or via PFI . Taxes , stealth taxes, were increased , but so did spending. Eventually this came crashing down in 2008.

The crash of 2008 finally saw the demise of the management politician as a credible force (hence the conservatives mistake in appointing Thersea May, another management politician without the charisma of Cameron or Blair). The idea of economic competency of the left was shattered by the bank bailouts. The consequences of the two decade charade of £100 billion deficits were finally coming home to roost.  Taxes were to rise, services slashed, by the new conservative coalition  government . Ten years later we're still not sorted out the budget deficit- it's been cut, not halted, rather embarrassingly for the conservatives who've missed that target many times . The total national debt is higher than ever as a consequence.  Yet people perceive that despite the cuts and tax rises , they have gained little. Employment is at a record high. Yet these jobs are minimum wage jobs, people can't aspire to own their own property: conversely the ultra rich and corporations, especially banks have never been doing so well.

Is it any wonder that in such times people turn to alternatives than the management politician?  Populists, brexit, Trump even,  didn't come by way of a stalk and a baby. Yet rather than trying to engage these forces or to offer alternatives, the current politicians seem to want it all to go away and act as if nothing happened. Back to managerial politics. Unfortunately whatever happens, like humpty dumpty , the management politician model is in pieces . I don't think they will be put together anytime soon .

What is wrong with party before country?

Hi All,

One of those silly arguments I get on Brexit is that somehow politicians of left and right are putting "party before country";  a phrase that's existed before but is now wielded around with abandon, especially when the topic of David Cameron's initial decision to hold a referendum is discussed  or indeed May's handling of the withdrawal negotiations which it is said were all about (again)  trying to keep together a divided conservative party .

In the view of direhard remainers , Cameron should never have decided for a referendum , given the "division"  and "fascist xenophobia" that the vote has "unleashed" (17.2  million voters that is are fascists and xenophobic , until remain person meets leave person) .

The party before country accusation is specific to the belief that Cameron called the referendum to unite a divided (on the EU) conservative party  , hoping to win and thus make one side FORGET about their passions (cough, cough arch remainers , who've been continuing the campaign for three years now).   Let's also forget that Harold Wilson did the same thing way back in the 1970s, but this time it was a divided Labour party in power.

As for Mrs May if her intent was to keep the conservatives together, rather than steamroller / blackmail for plans , it clearly hasn't worked. The conservative party is split.

#

But anyways , the crux of this essay is asking : is the pejorative "putting party before country" valid or not. Not just in the current direction of Brexit, but generally?

My answer is that people who disdain party politics misunderstand exactly what , in theory and mostly in practice, parties  are there to accomplish. Political parties in a parliamentary democracy are groups within society who share similar ideals, outlook ,aspirations and values. They articulate visions and therefore policies for the nation. They act as vehicles to promote different worldviews , to which  they choose candidates that the voters can decide who represents and also governs them and equally important the direction of the country.  Because of the British electoral system ( the same applies in Canada and the US: Israel is the other extreme )  there are always two broad political blocs and maybe a small third party in between, of Conservative (right)  and liberal left (nowadays Labour).

The British political system is not as leftist like to imagine one of class cleavage and conflict : a third of the middle-class "champagne socialists"  vote Labour and a third of working-class people vote conservative. During the  nineteenth and twentieth century and ironically as the franchise became wider , the conservatives became the most successful right wing party in Europe and tended to be seen as the natural party of government.

Therefore if you are into politics and belong to or support one of these parties you will consider yourself to be putting the country first , because you have a set of beliefs that you think are good for the country , these chime with your party .. so belonging to and wanting your side to win   to keep or implement these policies , would be actually putting your country first.

This leads to the matter that I've kept to last : if there are competing attitudes /ideas /policies to what is good for the country how can you reasonably call for an "objective"  call for "the national good". Aside from the basic internal and external security and stability of the state, I fail to see how you can do so.  What a die in the wool momentum activist considers the greater good for the nation is something which I would not.

I think I will expand upon these thoughts on future posts.  But suffice to say that calls to put country before party are really calls - in lofty rhetoric-  to put someone else's idea before your own - it doesn't mean that they are putting country ahead of their own worldview anymore than you are .

What the blazes has happened to beloved Britain?

Dudes,

After an election in Israel in which both sides pledged  to defend Israeli sovereignty and our  [Jewish] people come what may, we can only look on with pity and sympathy at the utter destruction  of Great Britain as a sovereign great power, which has every right under moral and international law to break free from the EU cartel?

How on earth can the British elites get away with a de facto unconditional surrender to the EU, against the vast majority who wish to be pro European , but anti EU ?  What the feck is that blasted  May still doing in power ?  Why is she surrendering to the Labour party,  which dismisses antisemitism and seemingly hates Joos? Why is it Israel can sign a free trade agreement with the EU , but Britain has to be bound by that ridiculous withdrawal agreement? Why is paratliament - the mother of parliaments- incapable of reaching a decision?

Britain is a great power and a great people, with a colossal potential in real ale,  soft power, financial capital and sheer fucking guts, with a history , art and culture , philosophy, university system  almost second to none  . But her political and elite class are so out of touch , she will- I fear-  reap a whirlwind akin to Germany 1933: God help us all!

And where are the hawkmen when you need them?
