The rust belt

Hi All,

Another similarity between the UK and America is that it is the rust belt wot won it . In America the rust belt is the area of America which had booming 20th century heavy industries and mining, but are nowadays struggling with the globalisation of the post cold war era. In the past these blue collar , "  lower middle and working class "  as we would say, areas would be heavily democratic , but have recently swung republican or at least Trump.

Likewise last week the Conservatives  won in the English North and Midland area, places where the left Labour party was dominant, e.g. Durham, alongside the rural areas and suburbs..  Not now, given the losses, is Labour a party of the north, but of big cities and greater  London.

Like the democrats in America, Labour has all but abandoned- as it did with us Jewish voters-  its traditional working class vote in favour of middle class woke, extremist climate activists,  London's remainers and student style radical socialism. Stuff that's like a bucket of sick in traditional working class areas.

Yet as the Labour party grapples with its defeat , the party wants to blame everyone but themselves. I guess they're channelling Marx and the "false consciousness ".
