Hi All,
As our county is in Tier 4 lockdown, I've got nothing better to do than to watch some old films, namely the 'justice league' and 'the avengers' which include all the great comic book super heroes. But if we did this in Britain, who'd we have instead of Batman/Wonderwoman/Captain America/Iron Man etc?
Here's a few :
1)Robert of Loxley aka Robin Hood : team leader of the Justice league of Britain, the legendary outlaw needs little introduction: a member of the yeoman/squire class, who was a knight, came black to blighty after the crusades and leads a revolt against Prince John and the Sherriff of Nottingham, due to their fiscal taxation policies and helped by his band of 'merry men' and Rabbi Tuckman (whom he met in Bagdad) . Now transported to the 21st century he leads a team to defend Britain from all enemies, including super villains, aliens and demi- gods.
2) Britannia : The personification of the British Isles, is of course female, near immortal and brandishes a trident weapon given to her by her dad the Greek god Poseidon, whereas her mother was an Amazonian/Spartan warrior princess. Sometimes seen with a pet lion. Speaks with an Essex accent.
3) The Green Man : A legendary mystical figure of British folk law , so much so that many pubs are named after him.
4) Bill Shakespeare aka 'The Bard' : When Britain's greatest writer wasn't writing plays and poems, he was secretly a 16th century crime fighter known in the English Midlands as 'the Bard' and yes much to those in the south of England who recoil in disgust , he doesn't have a RP, but a very distinctive west midlands accent.
5) The Foxman : If Americans have the batman , we have the Foxman, guarding London from his foxhole in Islington, this bushed crusader has it in for the bad guys or is it just Tories?
6) The Squire : is the cousin of a more famous time traveller, except his time machine is a red telephone box. An occasional member of the team and unlike his cousin prefers a sonic lance to a sonic screw driver, smokes cigars and appreciates fine wine and brandy.
