Happy New Year!

 Hi all,

A happy New year to everyone and next can't be any worse .... or can it? When my grandparents escaped the pogroms of Iraq, did they know they'd face the terror of the blitz and fight back in return?

Anyways enough is enough and let us pause briefly, reflect on the year and tears, sadness, our joys and and hopes, the pain and the little bits of light to be found.

Today is this year tomorrow another.

Share anything you want in the comments below.

Shalom and a happy New year

Shabbat Shalom

 Hi all,

Another Friday and another Shabbat !

Oh and for those who do , enjoy your Christmas day!

Deal done

 Hi all,

Well we've got a deal with the EU and I'd like to think "it's all over". It has only took 4 years and incidentally the only lorry parks in kent occurred not because of Britain or no deal,  but because France tried to in effect blockade Britain, a silly little trick which backfired ,not least because French truckers didn't want to be in Kent over Christmas, but be at home with their families.

Remaniers, now increasingly a minority - the same types who can't believe Trump didn't concede, even though remoaners have had 4 years, rather than trying to sabotage things. Hopefully they will have the sense to finally concede reality and move on.

Justice League/ The Avengers of Britain?

 Hi All,

As our county is in Tier 4 lockdown, I've got nothing better to do than to watch some old films, namely the 'justice league' and 'the avengers' which include all the great comic book super heroes. But if we did this in Britain, who'd we have instead of Batman/Wonderwoman/Captain America/Iron Man etc?

Here's a few :

1)Robert of  Loxley aka Robin Hood :  team leader of the Justice league of Britain, the legendary outlaw needs little introduction: a member of the yeoman/squire class, who was a knight, came black to blighty after the crusades and leads a revolt against Prince John and the Sherriff of Nottingham, due to their fiscal taxation policies and  helped by his band of 'merry men' and Rabbi Tuckman (whom he met in Bagdad) . Now transported to the 21st century he leads a team to defend Britain from all enemies, including super villains, aliens and demi- gods.

2) Britannia : The personification of the British Isles, is of course female, near immortal and brandishes  a trident weapon given to her by her dad the Greek god Poseidon, whereas her mother was an Amazonian/Spartan warrior princess.  Sometimes seen with a pet lion. Speaks with an Essex accent.

3) The Green Man : A legendary mystical figure of British folk law , so much so that many pubs are named after him.

4) Bill Shakespeare aka 'The Bard' : When Britain's greatest writer wasn't writing plays and poems, he was secretly a 16th century crime fighter known in the English Midlands as 'the Bard' and yes much to those in the south of England who recoil in disgust ,  he doesn't have a RP, but a very distinctive west midlands accent.

5) The Foxman : If Americans have the batman , we have the Foxman, guarding London from his foxhole in Islington, this bushed crusader has it in for the bad guys or is it just Tories?

6) The Squire : is the cousin of a more famous time traveller, except his time machine is a red telephone box. An occasional member of the team and unlike his cousin prefers a sonic lance to a sonic screw driver, smokes cigars and appreciates fine wine and brandy.

Suez: a divergent point in history ?

 Hi All,

A blurb for one of my 'alternate history sci fi'  adventures

In 1956, the cold war raged between Capitalism and Communism: between an American led bloc and an a Russian led bloc. Then came the Suez crisis, a throwback to older and more certain times, in which the now eclipsed and former great powers of France and Britain, along with the new state of Israel, tried to reverse Egyptian  Arab nationalists from nationalising the Suez Canal. The then President of America, popularly called IKE, hated this whole affair and forced France and Britain into a humiliated defeat, not by military might but by making sure France and particularly Britain became economically bankrupt. History diverged when the British decide to leave NATO as a consequence: the French taking up the 'special relationship' and noting that it was France who helped America become independent in the first and gave America the 'statue of liberty' and the only nation who could truly be the European voice to America. Then ,when the seven  days of  world war three occurred  over the Danish Virgin Island missile crisis in 1962- Cuba was a US state and had been since 1960 - much of Europe, The Soviet Union  and  Communist Asia was slaughtered in the nuclear fire  : America survived but at a great cost. In the aftermath the remains of humanity, led by an intact, but starving, Britain and what was left of the Empire-Commonwealth,  under Lord Hume (later the second President of the EU),  created what was seen as previously  impossible : a  liberal democratic world government  called the Earth Union. Man landed on the Moon by 1966, landing on Mars by 1970- almost triggering a Homo-Martian war- Alpha Centuari by the time of President Thatcher in 1980 and by the time of President Delores across the galaxy . By 2020 humanity has spread throughout the galaxy and encountered numerous alien races... an emerging power,   youthful in being and not yet certain on her own place in the galactic scene...

Are the Tories willing a Labour victory ?

 Hi All,

So "high value" people are going to be allowed NOT to self quarantine after travelling back to the UK. This is the kind of elitist  metropolitan  stuff the "red wall" seats voted against last year. It's as if the Conservatives don't get that people don't like one rule for the 1% and another for the rest. They may have seen the back of Corbyn and maybe they think right wing populism is dead with Trump's loss. But stuff like this will only feed discontent and rebellion against lockdown and capitalism, from both left and right . Unlike in previous times when the pragmatic elites of Britain agreed  that reforms were put in place to save the system from revolution on either side , this feels more like a politically deaf move  and like Tsarist Russia : only interested in the wealthy oligarchy. And we know what happened next. The left will enjoy this news...

Defence policy is in Νεφελοκοκκυγία

Hi All, Much to my delight I have learned something new today and that is that Cloud Cocko Land was first thought up by the ancient Greeks,...
